Need A Service?

FAQ'S

What type of Dyno do you have?

A Dyno Dynamics 4WD Chassis dyno.

How Much Horsepower can the Dyno handle?

2500 horsepower

Does the dyno measure wheel horsepower or engine horsepower?

The dyno measures wheel horsepower.

Do i need to do anything to the car before i come in?

Just make sure you have a full tank of petrol & your tyres are in good condition.

Can i sit in the car whilst you tune it?

No, for insurance reasons, as well as the tuner needs to be concentrating heavily on the car whilst tuning, without distractions.

How long will the Tune take?

On average we need 4 hours to custom tune your car.

Do i get a read out of my car whilst on the dyno?

Yes, every customer gets a laminated copy of their dyno graph.

What cars can you dyno tune?

Subaru, Mitsubishi, Holden, Ford, VW, Audi, Nissan, Toyota, BMW, Honda or any car fitted with an aftermarket ECU.

How does Pulse Racing get such good gains when the car is STD, what didn't Subaru do what you do? Are the cars really that de-tuned from factory?

YES they are!

There are several reasons why Subaru don't & can't Tune their cars as well as Pulse Racing.

The first is cost, the bean counters at the factory would have a heart attack if the engineers said " listen we need a good 3-4 hours to tune every car", because every car is subtly different. A production line built car is built to fairly wide tolerances, if they were hand built they would cost a bunch more.

The second is for the upsell, if you were to road test a new WRX & said to the salesperson - "I like it, but i'd like a bit more throttle response/punch/etc", step right this way and check out this new STI. Each model is detuned to fit into its market segment, heaven forbid the Forester should be faster than a WRX.

Thirdly Subaru have to allow for every scenario, good old Fred & Marge may fill the tank up on their STI with 92 octane fuel & tow their 3 ton caravan through the Outback at 50 deg. C. At Pulse Racing we tune the car specifically to YOU & your needs. We know that your love you're car & will feed it only the best fuel you can get.

Are there any down sides to re-tuning my car?

Absolutely not, with most modifications there is normally some, if small compromise (it may be louder, use more fuel, idle lumpy, etc, etc).
Due to the sheer technology build in to the  factory ECU re-tuning it there is absolutely no downside, you'll get better fuel consumption, make more power, come on boost earlier, remain on boost longer, even be more reliable.

Did you say more reliable? How is this so?

There are so many safety feature built in to the back ground of the ECU to protect the engine, funnily enough some of them are not even being used, although they are there. Due to the large amount of knowledge & experience we at Pulse Racing have working with these ECU's we can set up & turn on all these safety features substantially earlier than the factory tune.
"So what does this mean to me", I hear you say. If all goes well absolutely nothing, although if the day ever comes when you get a bad batch of fuel you'll be glad. The ECU will do everything in its power to stop engine damage, even down to turning off the boost. If the fuel is only slightly bad, you will more than likely never notice the change.

Why is your Tuning called Pulse EDIT, & not Ecutek or Open source, etc?

Though out years of working with all brands of tuning software, including Ecutek we have been able to choose all the good bits from each & put them together in one package we call Pulse EDIT. We've delved deeper in to the hard code of the ECU to gives us more access to all the inner workings of your ECU. But at the end of the day its only software & like any tool its only as good as the guy using it.
This is where we really excel !

Why do you guys constantly achieve greater results than your competitors?

Firstly, we are Engine guys before software guys. To tune an engine to its peak you have to have a thorough understanding of the mechanical aspect - it's not all about the laptop or the software - that's just a tool.
It's about understanding what's going on inside/outside the engine & why, not because some other guy on a forum does it this way or that way.
Thats why at Pulse Racing we will only do Custom Dyno Tune's, we will never do what we call 'Flash & Dash' tuning, or worse yet mail order tuning. Everything goes on the dyno ! We believe that if you're going to Tune the car, do just that - TUNE IT !
We see cars come in almost daily that have supposedly being tuned, yet are still well & truly detuned. Ask the question, is it going on the dyno - no why not?

Please refer to our Terms & Conditions with regards to your responsibilities when we dyno tune your car.
